Compulsory Basic Training
The starting point for all learners is the Compulsory Basic Training (CBT). The course is conducted by training organisation approved by the Driving Standards Agency (DAS). All learners must complete a CBT course before riding on the public highway. The CBT course teaches you how to control a bike off road before going out with your instructor for two hours on the public highway. When your instructor is satisfied that you have reached the required standard a certificate will be issued to you.
The CBT course is complete in one day.
Your certificate will be valid for up to 2 years after which you must retake the CBT if you have not attained a full licence.
In order to take your CBT you will need to have a full car licence or a provisional with category ‘A’ motorcycle or category ‘P’ moped entitlement. If you obtained your car license before 1st February 2001 you do not need to complete a CBT to ride a moped (under 50cc).
